How To: GTA 5 Cycling

You may be aware by now that you can “Zwift” inside GTA 5. Getting this working is a little fiddly. I thought I’d be more than up to the task, but alas, I had a few hiccups. And a few questions along the way.

If your visually inclined, GP Lama has the best video I’ve found on installing and setting up GTA 5 Cycling mod:

If you want the written steps, here we go.

Installing GTA 5 Cycling mod

  1. You will need GTA 5 downloaded and installed. This might sound daft, but it’s 88gb so if you haven’t yet started the game download, do that now as even on a fast internet connection it can take several hours to complete.
    1. Start the game at least once
    2. You need to be in offline / story mode to use GTA 5 Cycling
  2. Download Mods Binder menu
    1. Extract / unzip
    2. Copy the two ModsBinder files to your game directory, e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
      1. This needs to be the same directory that has the GTA5.exe file
  3. Download ScriptHookV
    1. Extract / unzip
    2. Browse inside the unzipped directory to the bin directory
    3. Copy the three files to your game directory, e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
      1. This needs to be the same directory that has the GTA5.exe file
  4. Download ScriptHookV DotNet
    1. Extract / unzip
    2. Copy all the files (except the License and Readme) to your game directory, e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
      1. This needs to be the same directory that has the GTA5.exe file
  5. Download GT Bike V
    1. Extract / unzip
    2. Browse inside the unzipped directory
    3. Copy the Scripts directory to your game directory, e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V
      1. This needs to be the same directory that has the GTA5.exe file
    4. Copy the ModSettings directory to the C:\Users\{your user name}\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V directory
      1. Tip: This directory holds the GTA 5 Cycling routes in case you want to add more (see below)

You should now be good to start up GTA 5 and fire up the GT Bike V Cycling mod.

Helpful Tips For GTA 5 Cycling

The following are all the Q’s and the associated A’s that I had / found when trying to get GTA 5 Cycling working on my computer.

Where is my .fit file saved after a GTA 5 Cycling session?

This one is particularly inuintitive, as your .fit file will be saved outside the GTA 5 directory.

In my case my .fit files are saved to C:\Users\chris\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V.

The mod kinda hints that you will get a new .fit file every time you stop and start an activity. This was not the case for me in v0.3.0.2. I got one .fit file per game.

.fit File Gotcha: Be careful when changing routes mid ride. If you do this, your .fit file may contain big jumps as you teleport around the map. And this will look rubbish on Strava.

How can I upload my GTA 5 Cycling ride to Strava?

You will need to manually upload your .fit file to Strava.

See the above point for the location of your .fit file, and then when logged in to Strava, click the + icon on the top right by your username / profile picture, and select “Upload Activity” > “choose files” and browse to your directory as above.

How do I take / save screenshots in GTA 5 Cycling?

You can press alt + print screen to save a screenshot. However, if you’re using multiple monitors, you will end up with a screenshot of everything on each screen.

A better way I found is to use GTA 5 through Steam.

You don’t need to have bought GTA 5 through Steam to make this work.

Assuming you already have Steam installed on your computer, go to your Library inside steam (right click on the Steam icon on your dock, or click the Library tab inside Steam) and then in the bottom left, click “Add a Game” > “Add a none Steam game”. Search for your GTA install, and wait for it to appear in your Steam game Library.

Now, open the game through Steam, and you can take screenshots in game using the F12 key.

I had trouble with changing the location of my screenshots, so by default they will end up in your Steam directory, which in my case looks like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\32483315\760\remote\14125307220715372544\screenshots

How can I add the default GTA 5 Cycling routes?

See the installation instructions above.

Where can I find more routes for GTA 5 Cycling?

There are more GTA 5 Cycling routes available on this GitHub repository.

To install them you will need to download them to your computer, and copy them in to your ModSettings directory, e.g. C:\Users\{your user name}\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V directory.

This is the same location as you would have copied in the default routes. See the installation instructions above if unsure.
