For today’s ride, I opted for the Sweet Spot training session once more, repeating the workout I did on Saturday. I must say, it went far better today. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure why, as I should have been about as recovered on Saturday as I am today—if not more so, in fact, on Saturday.
I definitely struggled during the Saturday session, especially in the final four minutes of the 2.05 Watt block. However, today I managed to get through the whole session without any physical tiredness issues, which feels pretty positive.
A couple of things stood out from today’s ride. One is that I’m still experiencing a lot of connectivity issues, as shown in the end-of-ride graph. The frequent dropouts are becoming frustrating. While they’re not ride-destroying, they’re disruptive enough to make me wonder if the issue might be related to my phone and Bluetooth connectivity.
There are a few potential solutions I can try, such as turning off my phone, moving it further away, enabling airplane mode, or disabling Bluetooth altogether. Similarly, with the Garmin head unit, I realise I don’t necessarily need it running during indoor rides. I use it, but not extensively, so turning it off might also help resolve the issue. These are things I plan to test over the next few days.
On a more positive note, I’m definitely enjoying TrainingPeaks Virtual more than I have with MyWhoosh. Honestly, I think it’s because there’s a decent number of people actively chatting on TrainingPeaks Virtual. It feels like it has a more active and engaged user base compared to MyWhoosh. It’s still nowhere near the scale of Zwift, but it’s a nice middle ground.
Overall, today was really positive—a good start to the week. I’m probably looking at doing a race tomorrow, all being well, and it will likely be another race against bots.
One curiosity I have at this point is whether ticking the option to get trainer data directly from the power meter is having the effect I assumed it would. Maybe I need to untoggle that option, but if I do, I’ll need to test it during a workout rather than in race conditions.
Like I said, overall, pretty positive today. I’m feeling good about how things are going.
