The title of this post is a bit tongue in cheek.
I was hunting for a way to connect my pedals to the PC via BlueTooth. I’m actually not sure this is supported.
Along the way, inside the Favero app on my phone, I spotted that I was due a firmware update to version 6.12. Nothing major there, just said something about tuning rider position and fixing some minor bugs. Had it mentioned BlueTooth I might have gotten more excited.
However, when clicking through the app, I spotted I had made this change back in October:
So … yeah.
Whoops.
It’s funny because after my race last week I was genuinely left thinking… wow, I knew my fitness was down, but I didn’t think it was down that much.
Turns out, no, it’s not. I’d just forgotten I’d knocked 10% off my numbers to try to get MyWhoosh workouts to match between pedals and turbo. Not an issue inside Training Peaks Virtual, thankfully, so I can – and now have – removed that tweak.
Pace Partner
I’d thought about doing a race today. This would have been a race against bots.
The thing is, all morning I was thinking how much I couldn’t be bothered doing such a hard ride.
So by the time lunch time rolled around, I’d already started to think about doing something else instead. I didn’t fancy a workout, so the thought of doing a pace partner ride was most appealing. I did look on MyWhoosh to see if there were any live instructor sessions on, but didn’t see anything.
I meddled around trying to get the BlueTooth working, and that’s when I noticed the power change above. So once I’d fixed that, I had honestly completely forgotten about doing a race. That’s strange in hindsight, as I would probably have fared much better in a race with my new found gains.
Anyway, I jumped into a pace group ride and for whatever reason, I suffered far less connection drop outs today. I wonder if it’s anything to do with all the meddling I did?
The ride itself was fairly standard. Not much to report.
What I will say is there is a really decent community on Training Peaks Virtual. The chat was free flowing, and it’s the closest I’ve come to a Zwift-like experience on any other platform in terms of riding with other real humans.
All being well, I will do a race tomorrow. I’m now quite keen to see if my extra ~20 watts translate to an easy win.
I mean, it’s doubtful, right?
We shall find out.
