Each week Zwift sends me an email summarising my activity for the week. For previous weekly reviews click here.
This week consisted of 5 rides, four of which were Zwift structured workouts.
I managed:
- two workouts from the 10-12 Week FTP Builder program
- a Zwift Academy 2019 workout
- Jon’s Short Mix
- a Zwift Academy 2019 race
Of all the rides this week, the race was by far and away the most fun, and rewarding.
After two weeks in a new job, I just about feel settled into the role and the routine. Even with this new schedule, I’ve been happy with my riding, particularly over the last week.
Gone are the days of being able to get a ride in early morning. But I have managed to put in a number of hour long rides (though admittedly, not quite so many this week).
At this point I’m not sure if I’m being too ambitious to think about doing a race a week. That would be the best thing for me, in terms of exercise, I feel.
This week is going to be somewhat similar to last. Today is rest day. Tomorrow will be a Zwift Academy 2019 workout – likely a solo ride, immediately when home from work.
I’ll likely skip the rest day on Wednesday, and work through till Friday. Saturday and Sunday this week will be rest days, and I don’t know when and where I will get to update the blog for a while after that. It may be as long as the following weekend.
The graph is certainly looking interesting this week.
I put in a new all time high, thanks to the Team Dimension Data Zwift Academy Race: Circuit (C) race.
As a result of that, I got a guesstimated FTP boost to 198w. I don’t count it though. I’ve said several times before how hard the real FTP test was / is, and unless I get a new FTP level through that test, or one like it, I’m not going to believe it.
I followed that up with a recent low, with the optional easy workout as part of the FTP Builder program.
Perhaps the most surprising thing to see is that the Zwift Academy 2019 Workout #2: Race Practice ride ranked fairly low down on the average watts graph. That one was grueling, and the resulting cramp was no joke. My foam roller has arrived, though is currently with next door as no one was in for the delivery.
A side effect of all this exercise is I am definitely more conscious of what I am eating. I’m not trying to lose weight with my riding. It’s just a side effect. It has been eye opening to me to see what kind of crap the average Tesco / M&S “meal deal” contains, and how much exercise goes into working that junk off. And that’s with eating seemingly healthy salad options. It’s easy to get unfit sat in an office, that’s for sure.
All in all, I’m happy with last week’s progress. Really can’t ask for much more than this at the moment.
