Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here.
Something of a mixed bag this time around. I didn’t stick to my set weekly plan in terms of the designated ride types. But I did get in four days worth of riding with a 10km ‘recovery’ walk on Sunday.
Can’t really complain, but not convinced it’s the right levels of activity to be making the expected progress I have set for myself.
Here are this week’s rides:
- Tuesday – Spice Spot Training
- Wednesday – Smashing The Endurance Ride
- Thursday – Zwift Race the Worlds: Stage 4 – Glasgow Crit Circuit (B)
- Saturday – Stop, Reload, Roll
I started the week of, as usual, with SST on the Tuesday.
The difference this week was that I did low cadence (75rpm) intervals for the ‘on’ blocks, and then span it out at 95rpm in the ‘off’ blocks.
I feel this was beneficial, but very tiring.
The plan is to do this again tomorrow. Needs must.
Having those harder blocks – harder than usual – definitely helped, in some sick way, to pass the time. However the SST sessions usually do go by quite quickly. It’s the endurance rides I struggle to find interesting.
Speaking of which, my endurance ride this week was taken outdoors. That never works out.
I ended up blasting myself. The theory was that hey, I am not really going to gain anything by ‘saving’ myself for Thursday’s race. I will get pummelled regardless.
So I just went for it on Wednesday. And I set a new PB on a local short climb. Pretty pleased with that.
Of course on Thursday my predictions came true. Move aside Mystic Meg. Another Cat B race in the bin.
Saturday’s ride was a bit of a let down also. Not anything bad, just not taxing enough by any means.
My weight it out by a couple of days above because my scales ran out of batteries. Such is the problem with modern life. That never happened in the olden days. But then the olden day scales didn’t give me graphs and charts.
I believe things are still largely on track there. No concerns.
Anyway, hopefully back to the proper routine this week.
SST, endurance, Race, rest, climb, walk.
That’s the plan.
The September update is that I am not ticking up the FTP to 245w. Not yet anyway. I do not believe I am ready for that.
