This review is going to be short and different from the usual weekly review posts I do.
tl;dr; I’m still injured.
Thankfully I’m in a lot less pain than I was this time last week, but nevertheless it’s still uncomfortable to do things like walking, lying down, lifting, coughing / sneezing, taking a deep breath…
I’ve been planning on getting the bike out of the hall way and back onto the turbo. I would do that, if I could lift it without invoking a stabbing pain in my ribs. Until I can do that, it’s basically just R&R. I’m doing a lot of standing up – thank goodness for a standing desk – and when I do work sitting down I’m taking way longer breaks away from the desk.
I reckon most of this is because I had my trusty tyre bead jack in my jersey’s left pocket, and that’s what I fell on. The impact was therefore not spread over the length of my body but concentrated very specifically on the painfully protruding plastic tip. Whoops.
So that gives me pause for thought. I need to take the tyre bead jack with me, as changing a tyre without it – especially with cold hands – is a royal pain in the butt. But I no longer want it in my pocket. I was thinking maybe a couple of velcro straps would do it. Or potentially using a second water bottle, but using that for tool storage instead. The downside to that is it cuts me down to one bottle, which on longer rides – where I potentially need the tool most – I am quite restricted.
Anyway, something to think about.
Like I say, the aim for this week is simply to try and get on the bike. An easy turbo session is the order of the day, and truthfully I’d be happy with just one. I’m going stir crazy without being able to exercise. Who’d have thought it just three short years ago?
Sounds rotten! I know how frustrating it can be not being able to exercise. I woke up one morning in February and could barely walk from dizziness. Turned out to be something wrong with my ear. Only managed to get back out on the bike a few weeks ago.
I did find this site yesterday if you are sticking to the trainer: https://trainerday.com/
Has an app and the premium version is only £3 a month. I’d been using trainerroad for my indoor workouts but this seems almost identical and a fraction of the price.
Good to hear how you are doing. Hope the recovery is not too long!
£3! madness. I don’t know how they even make money at that price. I guess maybe it’s a labour of love?
I can’t think I’d heard of this one until now, so thanks for sharing. My word there’s even a free plan. I shall be checking it out for sure.
Reckoning ~2 more weeks on the recovery at this point. Well, that’s before I’ll try an outdoor ride again anyway.
I use a “keg” in my seat tube bottle cage with tyre levers, Co2, multi tool and tube. I use a 750ml bottle for fluids which was a big as I could find. For 40km plus rides I’ll chuck a hydration tab in, that does me for pretty much anything upto 60km. Longer and I’ll take a 2nd bottle and throw spares in the jersey pocket.
You could always get a kevlar panel for the pocket you put the levers in 😉
Another good alternative is the “Road Bandit” https://www.specialized.com/road-bandit/p/156509?color=276820-156509
Or the Topeak Ninja series
https://www.topeak.com/global/en/products/320-Ninja-Series
Cant go wrong with names like “road bandit” or “ninja”, cars would give extra space when passing “The Preston Road Bandit” for fear of incurring his wrath.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah so I too use a 750ml bottle. And for the seat post bag I use this one – https://www.blackburndesign.com/p/grid-small-bike-seat-bag/350170000100000064.html – it’s not quite that, but it’s the same brand and I guess thats the newer model. It fits everything… except it wouldn’t fit the tyre bead jack because that would only just about fit the 750ml bottle.
I’m gunna try with two velcro ‘cable ties’ and see if that works. All I care about is it doesn’t squeak or make any kind of noise. Also it would be super nice if it didn’t destroy my frame.
I’m still lol’ing re-reading this post. The cheek of it. I love it.
“The Preston Road Bandit” 😂 hilarious
