It feels like it’s been a long week. Not a bad week. Actually, quite a good week. An enjoyable week even, in some regards. But not an outdoors-friendly week. Until tonight, anyway.
I had no real plan for tonight’s ride. Basically, get out, do an hour, ideally 30km (or close too), and maybe try and keep to at least 3w/kg for the majority of it. Nothing structured. No workout. Just try and ride at a steady pace.
The route wasn’t anything too adventurous. I have ridden a very similar route to this before, and have covered all the roads – I think – on several other rides.
The route I did take was predominantly country roads. My favourite. Mostly quiet, even at rush hour. But in this instance, very much full of potholes, cracked surfaces, and generally pretty crappy riding conditions.
I’m suffering a heck of a lot of shoulder pain after outdoor rides. This is all in my right shoulder. And this has been a recurring problem ever since I fell off the bike on one of my very first outdoor rides. I did a lot of damage that day, and about 6 months later I’m still suffering from the impact.
One thing that I am considering at the moment is changing my bike. I’ve been looking for a road bike with suspension. I know these aren’t the norm, but I seem to have found one. And it looks extremely similar to my current bike. The Specialized Roubaix seems to have some kind of suspension in the bars which may be the answer I need. Bit hard to tell purely from online spiel / videos. But I’m kinda keen to check this out. Not cheap though.
Anyway, I’m keeping this one short tonight. Glad to have got my workout in. Going to aim not to do 5 on days from next week. I think it’s better to have Monday and Friday off, as I used too, and maybe do more indoor stuff anyway which is less stressful on my shoulder. Anyway. The weekend is here now. Hopefully we get a bit of clear sky / bike friendly weather over the next two days and I can get out again – shoulder pain or not, I still want to ride.
