Well, phooey.
I had this one all planned out. I’d expected it to be wet when waking this morning, but no, the beeb had lied. It was dry and I was keen to get in a fairly early ride.
Rather than create a new route I scanned through my Garmin Connect app to find something ~30km that I hadn’t done recently, that wasn’t one of the “same old loops” and would ideally have me heading out into the countryside to do some uphill stuff.
All good. I found a ride I’ve titled ‘Close to Parlick‘ as it does, in fact, go quite near Parlick. However do I come up with these ideas?
Setting off I felt alright, not great.
Things went sour when I got to the busiest roundabout on the circuit. Seeing an opportunity to get across I went from a stand still to way too much exertion and I have, to put it medically, buggered up my left knee.
Think of a tractor pull, and pretty much next to no warm up and it’s basically a recipe for knee-saster.
Lame.
I continued on and felt pain the whole ride. And it’s not stopped since I got home.
Is it life threatening? No, of course not. But it hurts and I’m worried I’ve done some damage. I’ll have to see how I feel tomorrow but I’ll be gutted if I can’t even go for an easy ride.
It’s a shame really as the ride itself was enjoyable enough. I did my best, albeit I couldn’t seem to keep a great deal of power down. That wasn’t just because of the knee pain, but also from feeling generally pretty tired overall. I think I’d not had enough water pre-ride which definitely didn’t help. Coffee can only get you so far.
As far as scenary goes it should have been a belter, but due to a lot of fog (?) or mist or something, the views were pretty obscured. Shame really.
Anyway, yeah… bit of a Debbie Downer on this one. Fingers crossed for an overnight miracle.
