Bad Route Is Bad

Last night I figured I’d do something more tempo based today. The theory was that it would be too hot to go hard. Well, it turns out that it’s not that hot… yet, but it is humid. I was dripping wet, but there’s little sun to speak of.

Setting off though, I wasn’t aware of this. So I went on a route that I figured I could go long and steady. Instead I found myself pushing, fairly hard. The ride would take me up to Longridge (generally a long and very gradual climb), and then I could choose what to do next.

The upshot of that was that when I got to Longridge I had the choices of either heading right, out towards Garstang and then coming back via the always busy A6, or go left, head towards Preston but be at the mercy of fairly crappy roads which eventually would lead into the the town centre. Sorry, city centre.

Well, I opted to head towards town. Not sure why.

The problem with the city riding is its very stop / start. There’s traffic, junctions, pedestrians… it’s a mess. Oh, and the never ending road works, of course.

So the second half of the ride was a bit of a fail.

Speaking of fails, I have started listening to tunes on my crappo Google Pixel buds whilst riding. I only have one in, the left ear – so I can hear the traffic on my right. They let in so much noise it’s hard to hear anything anyway. But the biggest fail today was in using VLC on the phone. I made a playlist yesterday and got through maybe 18 of the 22 songs on the list. Today I put it back on the same playlist but it skipped everything I’d already played. No matter what I did, it always skipped the songs… what the hell? Do I have to create a new play list to re-listen to the songs again? How ridiculous.

I believe Tuesday is off limits due to heat. So I suspect I will be out again tomorrow. Definitely need to take it easier though. Feel like I’m due an endurance ride.
