Beautifully Sunny Recovery

For this evening’s ride I took the opportunity to take my indoor workout out on the open road. Given that the temperature decided to drop to a more agreeable 23c (dipping to 22c by the time I was underway), being outdoors with a lovely breeze on my face was vastly preferable to being indoors for yet another night. And to the very best of my knowledge, this was the first time I’ve even been out of the house all week. Double whammy.

I used the Garmin Edge 530 to bring up a basic workout – pretty much to use as a marker to keep, roughly, around 140-160w. I didn’t do brilliantly at keeping to this for the whole ride, but by and large it kept me from hooning around like a bike based gibbon.

One thing that I will say I miss when outdoors is the ability to have pumping choons blasting away whilst I do my activities. There’s a niceness to being outdoors, listening to nature, but in some ways I’d like my techno sets to keep me going on some of the more boring bits. That said, I don’t dare. It’s mad enough as it is with cars coming too close. If I couldn’t hear anything I think that would be super dangerous.

As this was an active recovery ride, there really wasn’t much else to report than the above.

I’m planning to take tomorrow as a rest day. Saturday is the final day of the Specialized SL7 series, and involves 1000m+ of climbing, so there’s that to look forward too. Hopefully it won’t be too hot for that one.

I need to wash my bike. That’s not happened this week – and I’ve sweated all over it. It’s quite disgusting at this point.

These shorter rides are kinda frustrating, but with the time I have available at the moment, they are better than nothing. After tomorrow I have another week off, so looking to get in at least two or three solid rides over the next 9 days. Let’s hope the weather holds.
