After yesterday I felt a sense of relief when going out for my ride today. No pressure. Sure, yesterday was by no means anything to be happy about, but it felt good not to have the looming pressure of an FTP test hanging over me.
I went out this morning with no plan in mind. Just ride. I mean, that’s been a large part of the problem with why the FTP test result was so bad, but for today that didn’t matter.
And I really enjoyed my time outdoors this morning.
For reasons beyond me, I was awake at 5:30.
That meant by 6:30 I’d had my coffee, breakfast, and was hunting round for things to do before my wife woke up and I could get the bike ready (aka make noise) and get outdoors.
By 7:30 I was fully prepped and out the door. I’d have been gone sooner, had I not forgotten my water bottle and generally mucked about a bit, taking my time to make sure I was setup and good to go.
It felt nice to get out so early on a Sunday. Quiet, warm, and with ‘unlimited’ time for my ride. I didn’t plan to stay out too long, but it was lovely not to be any kind of timer.
Unsurprisingly then, I had a good time. Guilt free. Before I knew it, the sun was up, I had a sweat on, and so much for the really easy riding, I had about 25km on the clock around 50 minutes in. It didn’t feel like I’d been pushing hard either. Not a bad pace, considering I was outdoors and not overly trying.
Anyway, an enjoyable ride all in all. I have some major planning to do to sort out Quarter 3, but for now I’m taking my mind off it. It’s been another busy family day so it’s taken me over 12 hours to get to the PC and write this up.
With that done, it’s bath, a bit of Glastonbury on the TV, and then bed.
