Calling Time On The Bars

I’m thinking today’s ride may be my final weekday ride for this week. At 73km it doesn’t seem like enough to throw in the towel, but if I had done the same amount of time indoors it would have clocked up closer to 90km, I’m sure.

But that’s not really the reason. I can do another 30km easily enough on Saturday / Sunday, and combined I should more than meet my weekly 100km riding goal.

The are two reasons I’m thinking enough is enough for this week.

The first is that I’m simply feeling tired out on the bike. I tried to vary it up a bit today by eating before I went out. Normally I’d hold back and have something eat (lunch in this case) on return, but I had some left over rice and a bit of chicken and decided, what the heck? Not that it made any difference.

Secondly the Garmin training report isn’t looking too favourable at the moment. I’ve been seeing this after every ride and thinking pffft, what do you know Garmin? Surely you’re a lagging indicator? I feel great!

But not so today. After today’s ride I felt tired.

I feel good about the way things are trending overall, but definitely feel like I’ve earned a rest. So my plan right now is to take two days rest and return on Saturday for a solid hour or more. I bet it rains, of course. But whatever. I believe the Zwift Academy starts on Saturday, and I have an elongated 4 day weekend (minimum) to get in a good start to next week.

So all in, a decent start to the week, but I need to look after myself now. Don’t overdo it. Which in some ways is frustrating as the good weather is most definitely back at the moment. 20c per ride… can’t knock that.
