Two days in a row now where it’s not rained. Could Summer be here early?
Well, it was a toss up between an hours Zone 2 on Zwift (or MyWhoosh), or a trip out on the open roads.
And for once I kinda felt like going out.
A while back, for most of last year even, the thought of hitting the turbo had become really off putting. But lately I’ve been really enjoying my indoor rides, and so today wasn’t quite the obvious / easy choice it might have once been.
For a start off, it took me about 45 minutes to get my winter kit on, my bike set up, and to finally be outdoors. I could have killed 3/4 of my training session indoors by that point.
Also, it was cold. Not ridiculous. Not the worst I’ve ever been out in, even. But for someone who hasn’t been out much at all lately, it felt so chilly I was immediately needing to stop and get my hood up. Then when I was doing that, muddling around, a large group of black coated, hooded youths appeared from nowhere, and I thought I was going to get murdered.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen.
Anyway, the plan today was to stay on the quieter side roads – away from the death dealing motorists – and stay around 160w where possible.
After pottering around for 45 minutes, truthfully, I was bored.
The roads around here are garbage. It’s pot hole central, pollution everywhere, motorists even when it’s supposed to be a quiet Sunday afternoon, and cold to boot.
So back home I went.
On the plus side it did give me the excuse I needed to wash the bike. I don’t do that nearly enough when it’s on the turbo. So at least now it’s spanking fresh again.
Back indoors, not missing anything out there.
