Most definitely a ride of two halves today.
Managing to get out for a dinner time ride is always a nice thing, especially if it’s warm, and even more especially so on a Friday. Just that one afternoon work session remaining before the weekend. Ahh.
Getting out, I knew I would head out on my ~20km flat-ish route, and then after that, if I was still in the mood, I’d do a small section of the Guild Wheel.
However, once I hit the main road I got right into the Friday grid lock (think it was road works), so ended up doing a bit of a detour. All good.
Once onto the loop I mentally resolved to keeping at or greater than 3.2w/kg for the effort, which is a sort of out, loop around, and back. It’s gradually downhill on the way out, and then gradually up hill on the way back. Personally I prefer the flip, but we don’t always get what we want. And we’re not talking big climbing here, it’s 1% stuff.
All went well here, until some expletive deleted got horribly close. His car gave me room, but clearly he’d forgotten he was towing a trailer which very nearly ended my ride. What a fool.
After that I finished off fine, but I didn’t have much in me to carry on, cutting things shorter than I might have otherwise liked.
I really do need to get a camera for the bike so I can make a compilation of all these near misses. The YouTube ad revenue could pay for my wife and kids to have a comfortable life after I’m gone. And thanks to the camera, I should have captured the registration plate of the **** who kills me.
