Today’s ride was a bit all over the shop, really.
I didn’t set myself a route. It’s Friday. I finished early. I’m supposed to have done my hard rides for the week at this point.
However, I haven’t done my harder rides this week. This week has been a bit messy.
Even now as I type this, I’m still not quite sure what the intention of this ride was.
As far as exploration / chilled out rides go, I guess it was … alright-ish? I found some roads I’ve never been down before, but when I went down them they were dead ends. My legs were stiff, so it wasn’t particularly chilled. And it was cold – so I had to turn back and go home and get another layer.
That said I ended up doing 200m of climb, and was out for over an hour… so some good stuff regarding a burning calories.
But then I compare this ride to Tuesdays, and I’m sat thinking I could have been significantly more efficient. I’m comparatively ~300 calories down on Tuesday’s ride for roughly the same time travelled.
OK, so one good thing today – from a safety perspective – I have purchased some new lights. And by new I mean my first set of lights. Probably shouldn’t have left it this long, to be honest.
I bought these:
I’ll post a picture of how they look on the bike tomorrow – or whenever my next ride is. First I need to clean my bike as it’s a mess at the moment. Two rides without a clean… eughh.
I’m really impressed with these lights anyway. They do what I wanted – though sadly they don’t have a camera built in. What with all my PC expenses this month, I’ve had to sack that idea off. Shame.
Anyway, aside from being initially really stiff to get the black rubber gromet off so I could charge them, they worked really well. I thought they may be a bit loose on the ride, and have to admit I stopped several times to double check the rear one hadn’t fallen off. But they were rock solid. And powerful enough to flash brightly in daylight. I opted to only flash on the rear (oo-err) as I figured a full frontal flash (oh my) would be annoying.
So all in, a bit of a mish-mash ride. Not sure what tomorrow will hold, but if I can get outdoors I may well do. Hopefully in a bit of sun, that’d be nice.
I’d still like to get the final Zwift Academy 2020 workout done this week, too. But I won’t kill myself if I don’t.
