Tonight’s ride was supposed to be recovery. Well, technically I don’t ride Mondays, usually, anyway. But today I did, and it should have been an easy one.
But it’s really hard to ride easy outdoors. That’s partly because hills and stuff get in the way, and partly because without ERG mode, I have a bad habit of misbehaving and riding harder than I ought too.
The route tonight was deliberately meandering. Just a chill out ride really.
With the bike already being filthy, I decided to go off road and hit some back paths and woody type routes, knowing there would be a lot of standing water and general filth to enjoy. And I was met with my expectations.
One path I’ve been down before and decided to head down again is this weird route that seems to go nowhere. It’s down this very long, straight and flat path, behind some industrial estate – extremely quiet, save for some workmen having a fag, and then it just kind ends at this field.
Really weird.
But also quite a nice, calm route.
Anyway, aside from failing to keep under my target of about 2.4w/kg, today’s ride was nice and enjoyable. An hour away from the desk, and out of the house. Not raining. Not too windy. Not pushing too hard. Just a nice bike ride.
And burned 530 calories to boot.
A decent start to the week.
All being well, I shall do a proper structured workout tomorrow on The Sufferfest.
This should be my last ‘tester’ workout before I hit their 4DP session. Can’t wait for that.
But I have to man up and get it done, because otherwise I’ll just build it up, and up… and up in my head, and psyche myself out. I fully expect to have fallen off somewhat, so whatever happens, happens.
