Heading outdoors again today I was greeted with a fairly lovely Autumn morning. Temperatures up around 18c, low wind, and whilst it was wet, it wasn’t spraying everywhere or slushy and horrible.
In terms of a route, I didn’t have a definitive one in mind. The idea floating around my head was to visit Preston’s three prominent parks:
- Moor Park
- Avenham Park
- Haslam Park
But to begin with I decided I’d go and do a fly past of the park I most frequently visited as a wee kid. That took all of about 10 seconds. Hey, it’s a small park. After that it was off to Moor Park.
These parks are all fairly similar. As far as I know they were constructed back in the Victorian era, back when the UK was something to behold. Not the hot mess it is today. I’d imagine back then the tree’s lining the double wide pathways were only little things. At least today we have the results of their forward thinking. Unfortunately the pathways around these parks are far from smooth.
After doing a bit of a lap around, not at any great speed, I figured I’d head up through town, and onto Avenham Park for my next circuit. However, when I got there it turned out that Preston 10km Run was in progress, so most of it was sectioned off. Boo.
Onwards then, to Haslam.
Very similar in design, the grand tree lined paths were far more leafy down there.
But overall I wasn’t really speeding around today. What I did find at the end of that path was a new place I’d never seen or been before. This was entirely unexpected, as I took a wrong turn and thought I’d need to do a U-turn to get back on track.
That led me out and around some back streets that completely threw me. It took me a while, and a bit of riding around, to get my bearings. Anyway, little bit of local knowledge gained there. Probably never come in handy, but interesting all the same.
Sadly by that point I was running out of time. Homeward bound, I would have been happy to stay out for another 30 minutes at least. But that said, I have done plenty of riding this week so can’t really complain.
It’s now time for a rest day.
