Petrol’s Expensive, Let’s See How Far I Get On An Empty Tank

It’s been a pretty so-and-so day. Started off with me having a melt down in the kitchen. Last night’s dirty pots everywhere (my fault), then spilling my kids party sweets all over the floor (their fault, leaving half open bags of junk around), then standing in a inexplicably wet patch of the carpet whilst in a fresh pair of socks. I knew I was in for a rough day.

By 11am the kids were driving me wild. It took me a further 50 minutes or so to actually get suitably dressed and out of the house, and as soon as I set off I knew it was going to be a stretch. There was nothing in the legs except resistance to hard work.

I’d made up my mind that I’d head out and do a solid 20km of work then take 10km of easy peasy riding. But of course, my bad luck followed me outdoors. The route I had in mind had a major diversion in the way, and to get round would have taken me a considerably long time on the bike. I just couldn’t be bothered.

So back I went, and onto the busy main roads. Arghh. Suckfest.

Once on the main roads I immediately wanted to get off. But that did mean turning onto quieter side streets and that equally means slow pace, stop / starts, and generally very few kilometres being ridden.

Somehow I managed an hour outdoors. Incredible. And when I did get back home my security clearance for my new job had finally arrived. So, not all bad luck then?

Well, sort of.

I washed my cycling helmet when I got in, then hung it out on the line. I went back in, filled my bowl to wash the bike, walked back out and clocked myself on the head with the helmet and dropped my bowl in the process. Yeah… one of them days.
