Pre Tea Ride: Astoria Line 8

Whilst I enjoyed my morning workout, I didn’t feel fully satisfied from that ride. I felt I had more to give, so decided to jump on Zwift whilst waiting for the spuds to boil.

It was really busy compared to a typical morning ride. I opted for the Astoria Line 8 route, which is about 11.5km with 129m of climb. I had about 25-30 minutes to kill, so hoped to get in at least a full circuit.

Quite early on in the ride there was a fairly steep hill, not sure of the average gradient but it went on for a while. It’s tiny on the iPad, but I was really happy to see I was pushing 4.4w/kg at one point. It may have been higher even, but that’s all I saw.

I was pretty knackered after that climb, so forgot to take a screenshot for the next 7km it seems. Maybe not a lot happened. I had my tunes on, and was all too aware I’d forgotten both a towel, and a drink. Oops.

There was a sprint on this route. On the iPad it’s really hard to see the minimap so the start point, as ever, surprised me.

I did pretty good on this sprint. I gave it a solid effort, and got under 20 seconds for 200m. Faster than I can run, that’s for sure.

After the hill, and the sprint, I decided to settle in for at least 15km, and ideally around 30 minutes or more of riding.

For the last few kilometers I went for a high cadence. Pretty much just plodding along and trying to build my stamina. Nothing super exertive.

As this was a new route for me, I have nothing to base this against. It was enjoyable, particularly the hill and the sprint.

All in all, a decent ride. TSS man thinks I did “OK!” which is good. Well, okay, anyway.

Combined this worked out at over an hour on the bike today for total distance of 20.7 miles. Happy with this.

Have to think what to ride tomorrow. Maybe another bash at some hills.
