Another day, another outdoor ride. And I was better prepared for it today. At an average of 19c it was definitely warm enough to drop a layer, though as I was expecting to take it easy still, I opted for long sleeve base layer, a summer friendly long sleeve jersey, a gilet and bib shorts. With that I was toasty enough when going slow and not over heating if doing any small efforts.
The aim today – and for the next few weeks – is to start building up again. Right now I’m taking it super easy, just spinning mostly. I decided I’d punctuate that with a few short and sharp efforts – really just to assess how I felt after each one. Again, happy to report that I felt fine. Better than yesterday. There’s still that niggling pain there on a deep breath, or any prolonged high heart rate, but it’s improving every day. Which is nice.
I think the best news from my point of view is I’m more than comfortable with putting in a couple of longer rides over the forth coming Bank Holiday weekend. I’m not going to do anything silly, but some longer routes – without any climbs – are definitely on the cards. Couldn’t have asked for much more really.
One frustrating thing, I guess, at the moment is the calorie burns are way down. I did over an hour today and only came in at ~600 calories. And also only 23km… it’s hard to take in a lot of ways. I feel like I’ve really, really slumped in form with about 15 days off the bike. That’s gutting.
Anyway, irrespective of all that, I thoroughly enjoyed today’s ride. The only downer was having to come home ‘early’ – but I can’t moan too much as I got over an hour’s ride in. Not bad for a lunch break. And more to come over the long weekend.
So yeah, still taking it one day at a time but things are definitely looking like they are moving in the right direction at last.
