After yesterday’s longer ride, today I needed something of a recovery effort. Yet, I really didn’t want to stay indoors. Sadly, however, outdoors it was drizzling, but worse, it was very windy. And my long sleeve kit is still in the wash.
Out I went, anyway, in my short sleeves and bib shorts, taking approximately 10km to warm up … or maybe just lose any sense of sensation in my arms. Hard to tell. Either way, things generally did get better after about 25 minutes.
This was about 50% new roads for me. I’d tried my best to find as flat a route as possible, and was aiming to stick around 170w, or really, whatever felt comfortable.
Prior to the ride I was very stiff in my thighs. I contemplated just skipping today, but frankly, after yet another day of telephone interviews I absolutely needed to get out of the house.
It was kinda nice to be out but not pushing myself hard. Such a shame that in certain parts I felt the need to push harder just to get to the target 30km mark so I could get home and warm back up.
Some of the “roads” I hit today were really stretching the term. Back paths may be a better description. I’d imagine the moon has a similar road feel. And let’s not forget the horse poo. No one is out poop-a-scooping those beasts.
I’m not quite sure what to do as my next session. I’m kinda tempted to try using the Garmin workout function and seeing if I can hook that up, somehow, to riding on GTA 5. That could be an interesting alternative to Zwift workouts.
Fortunately, and though it is early days at this point, I’ve had some good news on the job front this evening. It came after my ride. And I’ve been promising myself a reward for resolving the job situation – this being a new cycling jersey. I’ve had my eye on the Mavic Cosmic Gradient (White), but from everything I can see, it’s completely sold out everywhere now… so gutted.
Anyway, another days biking in the bag. I’m off for a bath.
