Roads So Hole-y They Could Be Pope

Anything over 30km, outdoors, in under an hour is a win for me. I managed that again today. It used to be a stretch goal, and yet lately I’m mad at myself if I don’t hit that.

Today, though, was a challenge.

From the off my legs felt flat. A couple of unwanted days off the bike mean I’m riding Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week. Today was, therefore, only day 1 of 3. Yikes.

The other killer was the wind. On much of the outbound leg of my route I was smacked in the face by 35-50kph headwinds. Brutal. At times it felt like riding in soup. But on the plus side, when I did turn back for home I was absolutely flying.

Beyond that today, not a huge amount to report. Everything was under, in some cases just under the peaks. Apparently I did manage my best 1 second effort in the last 90 days… so that’s something I suppose.

Tomorrow I think I need to pick a less enthusiastic pace. I’d like to do another solid hour of tempo, so between 180-210w. We shall see how that goes.
