Rubber Gloves & Bib Shorts

After Sunday I was worried my right knee was quite painful when putting any pressure on the joint. However that had seemed to sort itself out overnight on Monday, so whilst today might have otherwise been recovery I decided to get out and do a ~200w steady effort over a fairly flat loop. This was the reverse to a ride I did on Wednesday last week.

Weather-wise, we’re in a kinda transitional period at the moment. I’m out in long sleeve base layer, long sleeve jersey, rubber gloves and gilet, but no need for a jacket or bib tights. I quite like it. At around 12c according to the weather report, it was a bit blustery in places but overall really pleasant. There were plenty of cyclists out, so I guess we all thought the same thing. I was the only one in shorts though.

Pacing around 200w is also about right for me. It’s a good workout without leaving me dead. I’m also burning more calories than I would on an equivalent sweet spot session, albeit with more duration on the ride. Either way, it beats sweating for 50 minutes indoors.

I guess my only complaint today is I don’t feel like I’ve had enough time on the bike. I’d have quite happily stayed out for another hour, but with work commitments that’s just not possible. Roll on those longer nights… just a few weeks now, and hopefully the sun will come closely behind. We’re looking at a hot weekend, comparatively. Forecast around 14c, that’s going to be the hottest day of the year again, so far 🙂 I do love saying that.

Anyway, a short update really today. All things being equal it will be more of the same tomorrow. If I could get three days of identical stuff this week, I’d be loving it. But if it does rain I have my SST and Recovery sessions lined up.
