I wanted to go for a walk this afternoon. However my feet hurt when I put on my boots, so I had to ‘settle’ for a bike ride instead. No bad thing, as such, but having done the FTP test on Thursday I’m still not in a rush to get back on and do … anything just yet.
Figuring I could go for an hour and a half walk to basically replace the recovery effort I would otherwise be doing, I was disappointed with how sore my feet felt straight away. And even though I then swapped to the bike, my outdoor shoes were still rubbing so badly that I had to get my foot cover off, undo the shoe, apply two plasters, and then re-dress.
Fortunately after all this I was able to get in a ride with only occasional annoyances from the blisters. Sucks though, I really do just want to go on a nice long and calm walk. I’m going to try again tomorrow morning, and I might just put two pairs of socks on and squash my feet in and to hell with it.
For this ride I definitely tried to keep the intensity low. That said, I still ended up burning more calories outdoor in less time than I did indoors on Thursday. How does that work? How come outdoor rides always seem to burn more calories than the equivalent time spent indoors?
Anyway, I’m keeping it brief tonight. I am feeling really… I don’t know, I guess lazy but it’s not quite that. Lethargic maybe?
Overall I’m pretty happy with how the week’s gone though so I don’t feel bad about it. I just want to relax and recover, as it’s looking like a big week ahead. Not on the bike. But I guess I’ll cover that more in the weekly review.
Until then.
