For today’s ride, I chose the Stepped Intervals workout on MyWhoosh. The main reason for selecting this workout was its duration—at 44 minutes, it was short enough to fit into my lunch break, allowing me around 15 minutes to eat afterward. Another appealing aspect was its structure: it steps through various training zones without being overly taxing, which was ideal given that I wasn’t entirely sure if my setup was dialled in perfectly.
I’d definitely say there’s still some discrepancy in the power figures being reported. The endurance and tempo sessions didn’t feel particularly taxing, but once I hit the 3-minute threshold effort and the final 1-minute effort at 109% of FTP, I certainly felt the intensity. I wasn’t entirely convinced that I wasn’t actually performing at a higher effort level, possibly misreported due to the recent re-calibration with the Assioma pedals.
During the ride, I experimented a bit with the Assioma app to see if I could improve the power accuracy. As I hit the higher-intensity intervals, I noticed that the numbers on MyWhoosh were slightly lower than what I was seeing on my Garmin. To address this, I adjusted the offset from -9% to -8.5%.
One useful feature in the Assioma app is that you can re-calibrate the pedals on the fly without needing to stop the ride. However, despite this tweak, it didn’t seem to make a noticeable difference in the power discrepancy.
By the end of this workout, I had burned only about 400 calories over the 44 minutes, which felt quite low. This added to my suspicion that there’s still a power discrepancy. However, one thing I did notice was that the calorie numbers on MyWhoosh and on my Garmin were aligned today, which hasn’t always been the case. So, I’m still a bit confused about what the numbers truly reflect now.
I’ll likely aim to do another workout tomorrow, though I’m not entirely sure which one yet. I’m also uncertain about my schedule for the day, so I don’t know how much time I’ll have for the ride. Hopefully, I can fit in something roughly similar in duration and intensity.
