Went down plenty of roads I don’t normally frequent today – mostly because traffic when I do ride tends to be horrendous / dangerous there.
I did have a crazy issue early in the ride where I turned a 90 degree bend, scuffed a huge chunk out of my pedal as it hit the road, and did some ballet moves to save myself from a terrible fall. Quite pleased I stayed up, but the damage to the pedal is pretty bad.
Beyond that, I keep thinking I want this Garmin watch. But I really don’t want to spend a grand.
What to do.
Hi Chris,
Long time lurker de-lurking as I have a Garmin Forerunner 965. It’s good for running but I often find myself cycling up a hill completely out of breath, with the watch convinced I’m essentially having a lie down! Maybe it’s the angle of my wrist that puts the sensor in the wrong place, but it’s frustrating and I’m probably going to switch to my HRM strap going forward. YMMV but if cycling HRM is the main driver then it might be worth checking more reviews first. Other than that it’s an awesome watch with loads of data to dig into!
I hope you keep the blog going – it’s a great read!
Cheers,
Kate
Thanks Kate. I’ve had similar experiences with the Polar H10 strap. I thought it was because I kept putting it in the washing machine, which then melted the contacts away from the strap. When I got another strap to replace it, I decided only cold water washes. So I would wash it in a bowl after I’d showered, but not use detergent or anything – just clean tap water. I then ended up getting a rash from the strap, so I stopped wearing it. And then I started again, and the rash came back. Looking into it on Google is pretty gross to be honest, the gist being the strap is not clean. So I think I have to nuke it again, even if it means replacing it / suffering from the bad readings.
What you’re reporting about the occasional inaccuracies are exactly what I saw others complain about on YouTube.
I’m sort of torn between the fact that I’m not training for anything, and occasional bad data isn’t really that bad for me. And then thinking it would probably annoy me to the point I’d end up wearing the Polar H10 anyway, somewhat defeating the point.
Clearly, I remain undecided.
Thanks for your comment, and for the feedback on the blog 🙂
Chris
