Did you ever go to the Bingo?
Heck, even if you did, that title might not make any sense.
Tom’s Mix. Six.
Six rides in a row.
My legs were not having any of it this morning. They were protesting from the off. But I had to get in another ride. It’s so damned hot during the day that if I’m not out of the house before 10am it’s going to be a looong wait until ~19:30 before there’s any sense in going out.
That said, I have been out in the car today earlier this afternoon and seen three cyclists out in this heat. I want to say “mad men”, but one was a woman.
Speaking of mad men, I saw several people out today in long pants / jeans / hoodies / hats… and some of those were cyclists. Just absolutely bonkers. Take care of yourself, it’s insanely hot and regardless of what the Garmin keeps trying to tell me, British people do not adapt to this heat. Just not going to happen.
Now, the weather is due to turn tomorrow. And that’s probably the end of the hottest weather for this year.
It’s also my last day off during this 9 week break between roles.
So that was the other reason, aside from just wanting to beat the heat, that I had to go out today. I’m not sure how tired I will be tomorrow, but it’s definitely a rest day regardless as I start my new job. And then will I be overly tired on Tuesday? Who knows. New roles tend to take their toll on me, and it’s still going to be hotter than usual in the first half of this week, so the double whammy.
Because I just couldn’t find the legs today I took a laid back ride. I still covered the distance but it took me longer than usual.
Along the way I passed over the River Ribble.
Now you may have seen shots like this:
But even on that map, where I live is still mostly green.
Anyway, I passed over the Ribble on Friday and it was deep. I thought… hey, never fear, the North has finally come good and we are safe from the worst of it. I even had thoughts about letting out my house on Air BnB to Spaniards who wanted to vacation to somewhere warm for their summer holidays. The old role reversal.
But then today:
Anyway, so I get home and I WhatsApp my brothers and say “oh my, we are doomed” and so on.
It was then pointed out to me that the Ribble is likely tidal and the tide was out around then.
Well, didn’t I feel silly.
Oh yes.
And that’s about it from today. Basically a relaxation ride because my legs have just given up at this point.
So off home I went.
