I thought I was doing the right thing today. Get the kids to school then get out there, filling in the missing kilometres from yesterday’s ride – ideally aiming for a ~30km total between the two. Well, I managed more (not unexpected), but where I think I went wrong today was in going out too early.
My day’s lately have been filled with either sitting around refreshing job’s boards looking for things to apply too, or sitting around watching the clock tick down, waiting to complete interviews.
Today was a combination of the two. Wait to hear what time my interview would be, and then wait for the interview. So that’s why I went out early – because I knew I’d likely end up missing out on my riding time if I left it until the afternoon. Anyway, I timed it pretty well, getting back just as the phone rang (missed the call, can’t answer when heavy breathing, it’s just wrong), and then missed the second call whilst I was in the shower. Good times, they were understanding.
After that I sat around for an hour until the big show, and I didn’t think I did that well.
So that’s where I say – too early, dammit. Because the sure fire best way to clear my head is to get on the bike, get out of the house, and just smash out some kilometres. But I had no fresh kit, and besides, I was then to wait for ‘feedback’ so couldn’t really repeat the whole thing anyway – out of breath, shower, etc.
Anyway, the good news is I got the offer, so not all a wasted activity. The bad news is it’s not in writing yet, so there’s still that element of doubt. And that will now drag into early next week. But it does mean I can relax next week anyway, so that’s good.
To tell you the truth, I don’t remember much about the ride this morning. Is there any wonder with all this going on?
