Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here.
An intentionally easy week after the back to back Tours on Zwift, along with weekly races and whatever else has been in the mix. Good to have a more laid back week, but I would have liked to have had more time on the bike.
One thing that’s challenging at the moment is the short dinner breaks mean longer endurance rides are harder than the higher intensity, but shorter workouts. I’m not sure how to correct that in the near term.
Not on the list this week was an hours walk instead of a Zwift session on Saturday. Change is as good as a rest.
Here are this week’s rides:
- Tuesday – Zwift Cobble Crushers Race: Stage 2 – Lutece Express (B)
- Wednesday – Low Aerobic Action
- Thursday – Late Lunch Time Crunch
- Sunday – Alright, Aside From Motorists
Garmin moaned last week about my lack of low aerobic workouts.
Aside from the race on Tuesday, everything was low intensity this time around. As such Garmin seems pleased:
So that’s quite good.
It’s been an odd week really.
As above, when doing the lower intensity weeks my ideal would be getting in hour long endurance sessions. I could do this, but it means delaying my rides until after work.
Or, God forbid, doing them before work.
Neither really appeals. I’m a dinner time rider.
But given my current workload, I’m not sure how I can structure this accordingly right now. That’s my current challenge.
As it is though, I’ll be going back into the tempo+ workouts moving forwards. So maybe it’s not that big of a deal. Who knows?
Weight – not great. I can’t shift back down in to the 66s. Not sure how I got there, not sure how to get back. Fun times.
I mean, it’s not that big of a deal, but it feels completely random to me.
What I’m finding lately is that I’m lacking fitness over the hour mark. This was always the case, but lately it feels more pronounced. My body has taken a few years to adjust to it, but working out for around an hour now feels normal.
What I’d like is to push beyond that. Realistically though, I’m time crunched and it seems like a big ask to stretch the workout sessions sufficiently to change this. So that’s quite frustrating.
Just a random thought, anyway.
Right then.
Week ahead.
Race tomorrow – looks like a lap of Richmond. No doubt I will get absolutely panned.
I’m hoping to get in an SST workout, maybe an outdoor ride (the weather looks quite nice all week), and then who knows what over the weekend. What I do know for the outdoor stuff is to keep the heck away from the city centre. Nothing good comes from that.
I’m also tempted by the idea of a Crit City race on Zwift, if I can find one that suits.
Basically I’m ready to get back to work.
