Every week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here.
This week consisted of 5 days riding, with a mixture between indoor and outdoor rides. There was nothing super intensive this week, with all rides being fairly short by comparison with previous weeks. This was to be expected as I started a new job during the week.
This week’s exercises was as follows:
- Monday – Monday Night With Emily (Indoor / Zwift)
- Tuesday – Outdoor Emilys (Outdoor)
- Thursday – Jon’s Failed Sprints (Indoor / Zwift)
- Friday – Friday Night Flats (Outdoor)
- Saturday – Back Country (Outdoor)
This most definitely felt like a week where I was getting on the bike just to keep up my momentum, rather than to push myself to new heights.
I found the week stressful, what with having to quickly upskill to a new role, along with being stuck at my desk for 40+ hours whilst the weather was nice outside. By the time evening came around and I could get out, most days I either didn’t want too, or only had a limited amount of time to do a ride anyway. Or both.
Still, I managed to get out more than I might otherwise have, had I not been determined to do so. Getting out of the house on the bike after work was actually a decent way to de-stress and unwind. That was most evident on Tuesday.
One thing I definitely pushed myself on this week was the anaerobic efforts.
Or, sprinting.
This isn’t something I tend to do much of, unless I make a concerted effort to do so. Primarily cus I’m not particularly good at that side of cycling.
I had a hell of time of it during Jon’s Short Mix, with ERG mode basically trying to kill me.
The one other thing that came out of this last week was the necessity to schedule in another FTP test.
I’ve decided to pencil one in the diary for early September. That should give me a decent understanding of where I stand in relation to my year goal of 230w or greater as an FTP (which I am currently above, or was, at the last road test), and set me up for the final quarter of the year.
Aside from that, not much else to report this week.
