Each week I try to review and reflect on my previous week on the bike. This allows me to see how my fitness and ability is progressing on a wider timescale than day to day. For previous weekly reviews please click here.
Seems like I missed last week’s edition.
In some ways that doesn’t surprise me. Lately I’ve been feeling very despondent about keeping going with this site. It’s become something of a chore. At present I feel like I’m only updating it because of habit, not because of desire.
That’s a bit of a shame, but maybe this site has now run its course?
I don’t doubt I’d keep up with my riding regardless of this blog, but would I do some of the things I do, were it not for running the site? I’m not sure.
Food for thought.
Here are the two week’s rides:
- May 20th – Decent Push
- May 22nd – Losing The Will
- May 25th – Two Steps Forward
- May 28th – Better Connection
- May 29th – Early Lunch Punch
- May 30th – Peak Fitness Achieved
- June 1st – Gravel Action
On the positive side, my fitness is clearly on a nice upward trend. I think having a few rides go over the hour mark is helping. I really feel like I fall off a cliff around the 30km marker, but maybe that is more mentally than physically.
By that I am only talking about outdoor rides. Indoors it’s far easier to do longer distances for two reasons.
One is that the software either is very optimistic, or simulates very ideal conditions.
The other is that riding on a turbo doesn’t knacker up my body anything like as much as constantly riding over the crap road surfaces round here.
Even so, when the sun is shining and I’ve been at my desk for hours and hours, the prospect of sweating out more hours in front of the same screens is not that appealing lately. However this comes and goes in phases. Right now I’m in an outdoors phase.
My Zwift subscription expired this week.
I’m not fully committed to MyWhoosh which, aside from racing, has absolutely everything I need.
It’s kinda nice to be over on a new platform with lots of new things to see and do. I’ve not got a ‘tick’ next to everything already, and honestly I have absolutely no qualms about ditching Zwift. It served a purpose but to ask £17.99 per month for their current offering is steep. I won’t go into further than that, as it has been said and done over and over.
By the way, if you’re curious as to what workouts are on offer on MyWhoosh, see here.
The one other thing I’ve noticed recently is my weight has come back down from the mid 68s back into the 67s.
I have no idea what causes these fluctuations but I have been through and updated myself to 69kg in everything, just in time for it to come back down. Bloody hell. Pointless admin.
I had actually hoped to get out on the bike today, but the weather is not as good as what the forecast predicted, and it’s due to rain tomorrow. So it might be turbo season once more. Apparently this summer is going to be a wash out for the UK – but what’s new?
So, plans for the week ahead.
Honestly?
Just ride.
As I said above, right now I’m so down on the whole thing I don’t want to commit to anything. Any pedalling over 0km is a Brucey bonus.
