I’m not entirely sure why, but today I was really downbeat after my ride.
Things started off kinda weird. I appear to have an indexing issue that is quickly getting worse. Looks like I need to re-watch some GCN videos on how to properly index my gears without totally screwing everything up.
This is largely an issue when setting off from a stationary position / junction. I’m experiencing a lot of thrashing of the gears, to the point where yesterday I thought my chain had come off.
No sooner had I set off today, I had gear issues. And then somehow I ended up dialling 999 whilst trying to make sure my phone was properly seated in my jersey pocket. All of a sudden my phone started making an alarm sound, vibrating, and when I’d pulled it out of my pocket it was ringing the emergency services… yikes. I had to apologise profusely. I’m still not sure how on earth I did that.
From there I tried to build up a bit of heat in my core because I was freezing. That’s when I noticed my heart rate monitor was recording an entirely incorrect figure. I stopped, re-connected the sensor and things seemed fine. Then I set off without re-starting the ride clock so lost a section of the ride.
Shortly after that I had a crazy skid on a wet, leafy gravelly corner… it just wasn’t fun.
I think that set the tone for the rest of the ride. A mobile accident waiting to happen.
Dunno. I guess it’s a collection of lots of little things rather than anything specific.
But yeah… one to forget. I think I’ll try again tomorrow, and aim for a route that’s less stop start.
