About Average

The aim of this one was to stick to around 2.8w/kg for the ride.

Well, I failed hard on that front.

Infact, I failed so hard that the Garmin reported this one as being a primary benefit to Anaerobic … which is something I’ve tried, and failed, to do deliberately in the past. And today I somehow managed that on an alleged recovery ride.

In other words, whatever plans I had in my head, they went out of the window. Albeit without me really consciously knowing.

Knowing I didn’t have a huge amount of time today I decided I’d head out to Longridge, which is a long and fairly gradual uphill drag, with a couple of short and punchy little climbs (and I do mean little) thrown in along the way.

Heading out I was glad to have brought my arm warmers as although it was sunny, along the way I was chilly enough to need to stop off and layer up. I figured those two little punchy climbs might get me hot enough to take the layers off, but no, I kept them on throughout. In hindsight a long sleeve base layer would have been suitable.

Anyway, once at Longridge I figured I’d head back homewards, giving myself the option to turn off and return early, or continue on through Ribbleton, passed the prison and maybe down onto Avenum Park.

That all went fine, and given I had to be home for 10:30 I was still left with time to spare by the end.

All in all, not a bad ride. Nice to get the fifth ride of the week in, push my weekly totals higher (the highest they’ve been in over 8 weeks), and generally put a decent end on an otherwise fairly up and down week (off the bike).

I think I destroyed any of the hard work I’ve done this week with dinner at a fancy restaurant. Fairly sure that meal was >2k calories… whoops! Nice though.

Possible rest day ahead. Busy with the family tomorrow as it’s Bank Holiday Monday here in the UK. I typically take Monday as a rest day anyway, and I’m off all week so can fit in plenty of riding anyway. Hoping to do something a little longer at some point this coming week… we shall see.
