Well, it was inevitably really. I knew if I kept hitting my little TT loop that sooner or later I’d end up with my 20 minute effort disturbed by road traffic.
Today it happened twice. Once due to a truck coming at a junction. I had to come to a stop for that, but because it was early on – maybe within the first 5 minutes – my lap average remained at 272w… not sure how, but that’s what the Garmin told me.
The second happened maybe 5 minutes later, when two fellow cyclists caused a small tailback… unfortunately that disrupted the effort completely and thus, today was a write off.
That’s a shame as I was making good time, even with my gilet and long sleeves on. It was cold and windy, but the head wind was helping keep the watts higher I think, due to more resistance. But I was hot with that extra layer on. So much so that I expected to suffer from overheating, but that didn’t seem to be the case.
The one good thing to take away today was that I put in a 25 minute effort in the end. That does include the stoppages, but I put them down at less than a minute across both, so a decent stint.
I’m feeling a bit low again at the moment, so it was good to get in a solid session. Tomorrow’s going to be a tempo effort, and all being well I shall try again with the hard work on Thursday.
