Things didn’t really go to plan today. Not in a terrible way, just in the way that I didn’t do the things I wanted to do.
In my head I figured I’d start the day with a bit of work – I had one task in mind, aiming to have that finished by noon. Then I’d repeat last Saturday’s ride, but in the opposite direction. I figured that would take ~2.5 hours.
However, the morning’s work took longer than planned. I moaned about it on LinkedIn. Then, for reasons still unknown to me, I completely messed up my afternoon’s ride.
So the tl;dr; version is this: I came home an hour early. Don’t ask me why. I don’t know. I somehow got 3pm and 4pm confused and ended up thinking it was much later than it was. Given I had a restaurant reservation at 5.30pm, I suddenly had the urge to get back home… even though it was only 3pm, not 4… oh my, what a fail.
As a result today I ended up doing an hour’s loop at 200w / 3.0w/kg, though it took a good long while to find a rhythm due to roadworks and road traffic accidents. It was only once I got through Grimsargh that I managed to settle down and start cruising along. Prior to that it was constantly stop start stuff, very frustrating.
What I do know is today was the hottest day of the year. So far. A blistering 12c. Well, that was enough for me to get my jacket off… hello ladies, and ride for the first time in just the rest of my winter kit. But yeah, nice all the same.
Frustratingly, whilst I burned off 800 calories I feel like the meal tonight wasn’t worth the overloaded excess. That’s a shame.
Anyway, the plan tomorrow is to do Stage 2 of the Tour of Watopia. That’s ~50km and should take ~1.5 hours, so hopefully I come out with ~1000 calories burned to offset tonight’s intake.
