Dead Rat Send Off

Another day where I couldn’t be bothered. I guess the key thing is that I still got a ride in, even if it took 1h 20m to hit the 30km I set for myself.

As I set off this morning I decided to go a little free style, and no sooner had I got up the little hill away from my house there was a dead rat laying on the road to greet me. Was it an omen? I’m not sure, but my legs certainly felt far from alive this morning.

One nice thing today was my wife wasn’t heading out on her usual early Sunday start, so I got to go out later than usual. This turned out to be just after a heavy rain shower, so the road was soaked. However it didn’t rain throughout the ride – nor has it since – so I guess I should be grateful.

However that’s about all I can find to be positive about on today’s ride. It really was a lacklustre affair. I just can’t seem to find the motivation. It’s possibly mental and physical tiredness. Hopefully the week ahead will solve this.

Generally though, whilst I’m glad to be getting in some rides, I know I could be doing better. When I look at the stats after the fact I am kicking myself. It was nice enough to go and do Jeffrey Hill as I said I would yesterday. I find it easy to pull out of the indoor stuff, but less so when it comes to justifying going easy on an outdoor ride – especially twice in a row.

I guess I need to gather my thoughts and reflect on why the week’s ended on a low.

Fortunately that’s the exact point of the weekly review, which I shall dwell on and write up tomorrow.
