Early to Work, Early to Ride

Another night of terrible sleep. Stressed? Anxious? Just don’t need that many hours?

Who knows.

What that did mean is an early start for work. Which also meant an early finish for dinner. And that means less road traffic, in theory.

I knew I would head up towards Beacon Fell area today. That much was certain. The rest? Not so much.

As it happens I had a pretty solid ride. I averaged 217w on the full 60 minutes, which I feel could have been a little higher, though it was a little stop / start at times, simply due to the route.

I managed to get in my first proper outdoor climb for quite some time. Only ~50m over 1km @ 5%, which doesn’t sound like much at all, but the way there is an undulating, but mostly uphill of about 100m for over 10km, which saps the legs.

When I got to Carwags Lane, the climb, I wanted to do a steady effort of 3.9w/kg from the bottom to the top. And I managed that, even with my truly messed up gear indexing. I’m down to about 3 gears, or 6 if you count the big / little ring.

From there it’s mostly downhill back home, but I took it at speed and truly didn’t let up until I was ~2km from home.

All in, I managed 35km at an average of 29.6kph, which including the 316m of climbing, I am really pleased with. A solid effort, and a nice way to round off the midweek rides.
