Not gunna lie, been a long and tiring day. Not helped by staying up till 1am last night watching Breaking Bad, but still, knackering. Interviewing, chatting with recruiters, and trying to do some actual work in between. By 4pm my head was in bits.
I’d planned to get on Zwift today. But later in the afternoon the grey skies parted and woah, what’s that? That bright yellow ball in the sky… and this unusual feeling against my skin. Warmth? Holy moly.
So, even with a banging head ache, I figured hey, make hay whilst the sun shines (sorry, I’ve been speaking to a lot of Bristolians this week and they love that phrase). So bosh, kit on, wheel back on, and out I went.
The downside today was that I knew I only had 30 minutes. Had to get back and get the tea on, what with the kids going to their summer school disco, or whatever they named it. But that was fine. 30 minutes out in the sun was all I needed.
Route in mind, I figured I’d do my best to stay off the main roads as it was heading into rush hour. So I took a route out to the back roads and aimed for >3w/kg at all times.
I ended up smashing myself.
I burned about the same amount of calories as yesterday in half the time today. I just went for it. The whole route, pretty much.
And amazingly when I got back, my headache and any signs of stress were completely gone. I don’t think my thighs appreciated it, but the rest of my body and mind certainly did.
Ace ride.
Hopefully I’ll get out early doors tomorrow (weather permitting) and slip in another ~15km to round off the usual 30km I’d aim for. Happy days.
