The difference between an indoor ride and an outdoor ride is, for me, that I don’t necessarily know I’m going to do a climb when heading outdoors, versus having to pretty much choose e.g. The Alpe du Zwift from the menu when indoors.
It was baking hot today. Still is, actually. So I wanted to get my ride in early. Even so, I was sweating buckets on this one – as the picture below attests too.
I figured I’d head out towards Longridge and maybe tackle something small but steady in terms of heading up hill. However on the way out I figured I’d hit Jeffrey Hill, if, when I got there I felt like it. And when I got there, I did. So up I went.
Being such a nice day there was next to no wind. That’s got its pros and cons, but for once it meant no headwind going up, so I was able to set a new PB, albeit for 1 less watt than on a previous attempt.
The views at the top today were stunning. The first picture above shows the entire length of the fell I walked on Tuesday.
For whatever reason, on the last couple of climbs my heart rate monitor has dipped significantly during the climbing effort. You can see that on the heart rate graph above. I don’t know why that is, nor what’s causing it. The Polar heart rate strap has been pretty flawless up until recently. And it works fine at all other times. Bit frustrating.
Anyway, thoroughly enjoyed this one today.
Now, it’s due to be even hotter tomorrow. It’s pencilled in for 26c, but today was down for 21c and hit 23c earlier… so maybe 26c is average and we might even see something hotter. If I am up to it, and it’s not too hot too early I may sneak out for an hours easy / shady ride down some of the local tracks and trails. We shall see.
But aside from that, a lovely end to a very active and surprisingly enjoyable week.
