Indoor Cycling – Weekly Review May 6th – May 12th 2019

Each week Zwift sends me an email summarising my activity for the week. For previous weekly reviews click here.

Overall a really solid week with some good rides, some good climbs, and some good progress in terms of my personal fitness and well being.

During this week I took part in my first Zwift race – the Giro d’Italia. That was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to get into a few more races. I’m a long way off first place, but just taking part was a big motivator, and I got some nice pink socks and a nice pink hat for my troubles.

I rode the Watopia Epic KOM Reverse climb and the Radio Tower for the first time. Whilst utterly exhausting, it was also a very rewarding experience and on the way down I broke 50mph for the first time, unlocking the dare devil achievement.

I was lucky to get an hour and a half to myself to ride the Radio Tower climb on the bank holiday Monday. The next day I was pretty bushed, and was supposed to go for a bit of recovery, but it didn’t quite work out that way.

Taking two days off mid week was as a result of feeling some pain in my legs. I’d prefer to space the rest days out, but it didn’t work out like that this week.

After taking two days off the bike I was itching to get onto the Innsbruck map and do the Innsbruck Forward KOM climb. Whilst not as visually interesting as Watopia’s Epic KOM climbs, it was a great workout, and good to get a time on the board.

As mentioned, Saturday involved the Giro d’Italia race, and then Sunday was a race-that’s-not-a-race-race, aka the Tour of Watopia. In this case, Stage 5: Tempus Fugit. This was another great group ride, tons of participants, and I got to ride with a great group who kept me hard on the pedals.

The graph is trending in the right direction. The two recent peaks are the Giro d’Italia, which appears to be my strongest ever ride, and then the next is Tempus Fugit. The troughs are the recoveries in between 🙂

After the Giro d’Italia I got a FTP boost from 180w to 183w.

Hopefully at some point my shoes will be delivered. Really disappointed with the service on this. Been waiting 13 days at this point. Sucks when I’ve paid for next day delivery as well.

Also still waiting on the PC. The guy I’ve bought this off seems to be taking the absolute proverbial.

I’m hopeful that by the end of this week I will have received all the kit to make my setup better. On the plus side, the TV is now in place. Will do a proper write up on that once the PC is here.
