Choo choo – New York 6 Train Pre Tea

I wasn’t sure if I’d get on the bike today. Over the weekend I rode the Giro d’Italia and Stage 5 of the Tour of Watopia: Tempus Fugit. As such, I was pretty knackered. And yesterday evening, my legs certainly felt pretty tender.

I set the alarm clock for 7.30 this morning, but when it went off, I’d had a fairly bad nights sleep (kids up in the night) and generally felt like Monday morning could sling it. So I muted it and slept in for another 50 minutes instead.

After finishing work, and dealing with some swarming bees, I managed to find ~30 minutes whilst the chicken roasted to get my backside on the bike and put in a short work out.

It was really nice to be greeted by three ride on’s as soon as I started pedaling. Thank you all.

I opted for New York’s 6 Train circuit, simply because it’s short, has some climbs, and is always a busy map. New York is probably my least favourite circuit on Zwift. I don’t like the futuristic elements. However, if you stay on the low routes, there’s nothing futuristic to see.

I’d intended to go a bit easy on this ride. It didn’t work out that way. I can’t help myself.

If I had known I would get the full 30 minutes, I would have done Jon’s Short Mix. I’d quite like to try this workout given that I think my guesstimated FTP (currently 183w) is something I’m not too sure about.

All in all, a decent workout / ride, if largely uneventful.

My current target is 200w weighted average power in a 30 minute ride. I’m gradually getting there, and it’s a great motivating goal for me.

I forgot my towel on this ride. It was a drippy afternoon in NYC.

Much like the Watopia Volcano Circuit, the 6 Train has a few short bumps as I like to refer to them. They are little sprint / climbs that come round on each short circuit. Good to get the body moving.

Overall nothing spectacular. Just 30 minutes of effort after a pretty long, hot day in the office.

I need to check what map it is tomorrow. Not done that yet. Maybe I will opt for a structured work out, time permitting.

But now, game of thrones.
