The idea for this ride was to fill out the remaining 30km of my daily riding target, ideally at a fairly laid back pace. I wanted to get outdoors, enjoy the sun, and hopefully the roads wouldn’t be too busy, what with lock down and it being a work day.
However, I definitely didn’t control my tempo particularly well, and found myself putting in several efforts on little hills or Strava segments I was aware of.
I’m curious as to whether the Wahoo Tickr is correctly reporting, as apparently I hit a new max heart rate today at 201bpm, yet at that exact moment my cadence was 0rpm, and I was, as best I can tell, on a small U-turn back towards home.
Go figure.
Probably the most fun stat of this ride was ranking on segment of which YouTube sensation and all-round-guy-who-looks-a-lot-like-my-cousin Cameron Jeffers has also put down a time.
Just a 22 second gap over 870 meters. In fairness I wasn’t trying my absolute best, and at a guess, neither was he. I reckon if I truly gave it the beans I could get that down to about a 17 second gap. Oof, watch out Jeffers. He must be bricking it.
No VLOG on this ride. Not a hugely pleasant scenic route though. I just stuck to the local A-roads and side roads. Lots of tarmac, not all very smooth.
I probably would have been smarter to stay indoors and do an hour long recovery ride instead. But I don’t regret it. I might do though tomorrow when I get about 5 minutes in to the Tour For All Stage 1 Race.
OK, now to the garden for some sun bathing.
