Wednesday night and not yet done a ride this week? Laziness. My plan tonight was to either get started with the Zwift Academy, or do a ramp test. But I’d made quite the boob. The Zwift Academy doesn’t start until October. Whoops. And as it was a nice (enough) night outside, I figured I might as well get out of the house rather than sweat it out in the turbo.
One thing I’m super grateful for is that my bike gives me freedom. Freedom to escape from the desk after an under-appreciated days labour. I genuinely don’t know what I’d do, given this godforsaken lock down situation, if I couldn’t get into my cycling kit and head out into the countryside for a complete change of pace and scenery after a fairly crappy days work.
There were a fair few cyclists out tonight. I guess I was out a bit later than usual. It takes me a while to get ready to go out. Anyway, most of them say hello, or wave. Some ignore me. I think that about sums up my life honestly. Most people are decent, nice people. And some people aren’t. Yet it’s the ones who aren’t that seem to stick out in my mind more than the ones that are.
As you can probably tell, today wasn’t a great day – off the bike, anyway.
But keeping to bike related stuff, I have done my “resting” heart rate monitoring now two days in a row.
And I can tell you my resting heart rate for today and yesterday is 80bpm.
I expected it to be fairly high. After all, my heart rate during exercise is seemingly definitely higher than average.
I’m going to keep any eye on this over the next few weeks. Try and establish a baseline. As I’m using my Wahoo Tickr and an iPad app, it’s likely not the most super accurate thing. It’s only tracking when I’m either at my desk, or in fairly close proximity. If I find a large amount of value in it, I’ll find a better solution. It would be nice if I could get the Tickr to pair with the Wahoo Android app – but no dice. It seems that app wants the newer Tickr only… bloody typical.
Anyway, I expect to be on the bike tomorrow. Might do something easy. Might not. It’s always weather dependant – and if there’s one thing you can’t depend on in the UK, it’s the weather.
