With the latest v3.5.2 release of MyWhoosh, I was keen to get on and see what has changed. Also, I don’t think I have done a structured workout on there before, and fancied a change from Zwift.
For this one, I opted for the Endurance #7 Workout, which was a new one on me but it seemed to tick all the boxes. The workout was 58 minutes long, as best I recall, and incorporated:
- Ramp up (10 minutes)
- 5 repeats of:
- 7 minutes @ 160w
- 1 minute @ 140w
- Cool down (10 minutes)
As soon as I set off, I knew there were going to be a few issues with the intensity of this one. I could feel the pressure on my knee as soon as I got to the end of the ramp up.
Yesterday I said how the 1 minute blocks at 190w were painful. Well, due to the standard issue I have with my Tacx Neo 2 and Assioma Duo pedals conflicting in what they report, the ERG mode in MyWhoosh was over reporting as normal.
The workaround for this was to manually edit the FTP setting in the workout, which I think I knocked it down to 190w or maybe 200w, and that then allowed me to sit at the numbers above (160w / 140w). After this, everything was absolutely fine.
I’m pretty sure the route I picked for this was “Four Cities” on the Arabia map. And as my workout only took me on 28 virtual kilometres, I didn’t finish the route in full. It was a nice looking thing though, always with something to see.
That said, I brought my laptop with me and worked through this one. That is one advantage to the easier rides. Two birds, one stone.
Overall though, a good experience. There were other human riders on, which was good to see. The workout was well structured and did the job.
My only concern was the frame rate. I was down to 9fps at some points, which is a practical stutter. Now I think this may be because I’m not running in proper full screen, but rather in some kind of fake ‘windowed’ mode. And I say this because I was able to press Start and see the start bar, without the game tabbing out. Try that on something like Battlefield and it doesn’t behave that way.
Anyway, all good. Hoping to get back on to MyWhoosh again for another workout. Maybe even tomorrow. Have to see.
