Well so much for doing a turbo session.
If the BBC is to be believed, we should be 10 foot under water and said water being consistently spanked by fork lighting at this point.
Alas, no rain. And as a result, no lightning.
Looking at the forecast ahead of this ride I decided I’d chance my arm and see if I could beat the predicted / expected 7pm downfall.
My planned route was one I’ve done many, many times at this point. It’s close to home. And it’s flat.
So if the weather turned I knew I could get back to shelter fairly quickly. But if not, I’d stay out and do a bit of the Guild Wheel.
Heading out, within 10 minutes of setting off I thought I felt water hitting my face. However, I think I was imagining it.
The only water beads I encountered on this one were perspiration.
I decided to floor it.
I felt decent after a rest day yesterday, but equally pretty crappy because I’d wolfed down my tea ahead of the ride just to try and get out and beat that rain. Well, whatever, I felt strong out there almost from the off so gunned it for the full loop.
Coming in at 246w for the 20m and 237w for 30m, I was not far off my all time bests on that loop today.
Funny really because the other week I found it difficult to do two 15 minute efforts but today I almost felt like I could quite ‘comfortably’ done at least another 10 minutes, if not more.
However, I also don’t want to over do it.
The truth is I just needed to get out today. Work is fine, but being indoors for 8+ hours after 9 weeks as a free man is already killing me.
I think that’s partly why I flogged myself today. I needed the freedom of being in charge of my own time. I craved it. Past tense? I crave it. More accurate.
Anyway, a great session.
I’ve got my eye on doing Wahoo SYSTM’s Taper workout next. Or whenever I do a turbo ride. That will be when the rain comes.
