Pain Is Relative

Storm Corrie is here and the wind has picked right up outside. It’s not just the bitter cold each gust brings, but the definite chance of being swept over, or perhaps worst, into the road. It seemed like it was picking up on Thursday. Anyway, indoors it is until this … err, blows over?

Now, my legs are really feeling it at the moment. Fatigue central.

I passed over the chance of an outdoor ride yesterday even though I felt like I really ought to go out. Partly that was due to the cold / wind, but partly it was because my thighs are really tight. Like I’ve put them through a lot over the last three weeks, particular with the Tour de Zwift, and they need a bit of a recovery stretch.

Actually… a recovery stretch would likely do them the world of good. I don’t stretch. Much to my own suffering, I should imagine.

So I decided to do a really chilled ride. An hour, yes, but in alternating blocks of 160w on (2 minutes), 125w off (3 minutes).

On the face of it, it sounds very laid back.

But I found it no easier than any other ride. Somehow the difference between off and on was just as much, mentally, as many of the harder rides I do.

Crazy that.

Anyway, should I have had a couch day? Another one? I don’t know.

What I do know is I have the Tour de Zwift Stage 6 tomorrow and it’s a beast. The London Pretzel, ~50km and 700m (?) of climb… may have got the climb figure wrong. Either way, it’s a long one. Glad it’s fallen on the weekend.

I currently have no plan for that. Just get on the bike and start riding. Of course, the faster you go, the sooner it’s over. So likely I will try to gun it and get it over and done with. Then back to the sofa.

What else are Sunday’s for ?
