Slipping out into the early afternoon sunshine I managed to get in today’s ride on my dinner break. Of all the outdoor riding days so far this year, today was the first I could probably have gone out without a jacket.
Heading out today I knew I only had about 45 minutes and wanted to cover ~20km, so had to be fairly on the the gas the whole way round.

What this translated into was a short but intensive ride with a decent calorie burn and a fairly efficient (I believe) use of my time.
Or to put it another way: tired legs.

The thing with today’s route is that it’s probably my least favourite roads. I think this might be because the general elevation is the inverse of what I prefer.
The ride starts off largely down hill (gentle, but still), and ends largely up hill (gentle… but still).
I much prefer the opposite. I’d rather put in the effort up front and then cruise home. Call me lazy. I’ve been called worse.

Anyway, the one downside to my approach this week is that I’ve only covered off 80km, give or take, in my three rides.
I know for a fact that had I done the equivalent time indoors on Zwift, I would have surpassed the 100km mark by now.
I know (with less certainty) that I’d likely have done less calories burned in the same time frame.
Can’t win ’em all.
What I might do is go out for a light ride tomorrow evening. I do like that on a Friday. But I also may take a rest day and wait for the weekend for a longer, more chilled ride on Saturday and maybe something a bit more exciting on Sunday.
