Advent of Cycling – Day 4 – After Worky Thirty

Typically I don’t ride Fridays, though I’m not precious about it. I used to enjoy an outdoor Friday night ride during the summer sun. But those days seem a long, looong time ago right now.

As it is, I probably wouldn’t have ridden tonight, were it not for my personal Advent of Cycling challenge I have going on.

So, given this, I decided I’d just opt for 30 minutes today. I created a custom workout doing 20 minutes at tempo (180w or about 2.8w/kg) with 5 minutes either side as a warm up and cool down.

It definitely feels more fun to be pushing slightly higher wattages than I have been doing as of late. I’m happy enough with how I’m feeling that I will either repeat this workout again tomorrow, or possibly take a longer, easier session and then do something a little more intense early on Sunday morning.

At this stage I’m starting to feel confident enough with how I’m feeling physically that I could attempt one of the lighter Zwift group rides. Nothing too crazy, but definitely on the right roads.

I managed to hit both of my weekly riding goals today – 100km per week, and 3 hours or more. All good. Nothing really special there. Just nice to do it in 4 days – I skipped Monday this week. Also I managed to keep a decent high average cadence throughout again. That’s actually not something I want to get into the habit of. 95rpm is comfortable on workouts, 100 seems excessive and a tad risky.

Anyway, so far, so good. All my calf tension has gone as well. December’s looking up. Oh, and it’s my birthday ride tomorrow! Nice, another year older, another year wiser. Happy days.
