Keeping to the routine, today was an endurance / base building ride. Nice and easy after a more intensive SST session yesterday, sitting at 170w for 6 minutes, with a 1 minute breather at 120w between.
With an 8 minute warm up and a 5 minute cooldown these ones can feel like they take the full 55 minutes at times. Which is to say that in many ways they are a mental battle to complete. I think that’s why I skipped them for so longer.
But they are definitely worthwhile.
Tomorrow is a race, and having had the time today whilst riding, I have investigated the race tomorrow. It’s 3 laps of Fine and Sandy on Makuri Islands. There’s only 171m of climb in the total race, which is ~23km all in.
I don’t think I’m going to do particularly well in that one, but I am pleased it’s a longer race as it does keep me on track to get more time on the bike each week. I’d fallen in to a bad habit of doing lots of shorter rides, and most were at high intensity.
It wasn’t working.
Now I’ve switched to racing Thursdays it’s sort of a nice way to cap off the mid-week rides, albeit without any pressure to do anything strong, and without risk of blowing my engine such that I can’t get through the more beneficial SST session, which I have already got in the books.
So generally all good. Just treat it as a solid workout, and I can’t go wrong.
I’ll see you down the back.
