One of the nice things about these super easy rides as of late is that I barely break a sweat. At the end of the ride, my bib shorts aren’t a hot, soggy mess. What an absolutely novelty.
There are other benefits, too. Such as being able to read a book on my Kindle as I pedal away. I’ve now finished Pride and Prejudice, and am a good 25% of the way through Sid Meiers autobiography. If you’re a gaming nerd like I am, then you have very like played a Sid Meier game at some point in your life. Civilisation (or Civ) is my favourite to this day, but I have very fond memories of Alpha Centauri (basically Civ in space), and Railroad Tycoon (hey, I also am a train nerd… go figure). Actually, whilst I’m on this subject, if you like computer game history, I can also heartily recommend Masters of Doom, which is about the early days of id software, of Doom / Quake fame.
That said, the cross over between hardcore gaming nerd and hardcore cycling nerd is apparently quite slim. Hence the reluctance for cycling simulators to push the graphics envelope. At least, that’s the excuse I’ve heard touted for why Zwift looks like it’s stuck in 2010.
I don’t have much else to write about today’s ride. These rides are very, very boring in many, many ways. I’ve said it before and will likely say it again before this lung pain gets up and fecks the feck off, but getting in some cycling – any cycling – is vastly better to none. I’m definitely losing fitness, but as yesterday’s walk up Beacon Fell showed, I’m still struggling for breath once I do anything more than very light activity, so I have to take each day as it comes until such time as I get my Covid vaccine.
Right-o, time to take the sprogs out of the house once more. I feel for them. Their bouncing off the walls. Lockdown sucks. But the reasons behind it suck even more.
Unfortunately this one has failed to upload to Strava… so allegedly that means it didn’t happen. But in reality it just means I don’t have a Strava link to share today. How will we cope?!
